Itinerary

DAY 01: ARRIVE IN BEIJING

Meet and greet on arrival in Beijing and transfer to your selected hotel by your local tour representative. Day at leisure. This evening, take dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel. (D)

DAY 02: BEIJING

Sightseeing today includes a visit to the remarkable Tiananmen Square, located at the centre of Beijing City. Stroll past the Tiananmen Tower, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and see the national flag raising ceremony. To the north of the square lies the treasure-filled Forbidden City that was the Imperial Palace of Emperors for over 500 years. With some 8700 rooms this complex represents the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China from the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

This afternoon, take in the landscaped beauty as you wander through the grounds of the picturesque Summer Palace, once a royal garden and summer retreat for members of the Emperor’s family and their courtesans. This evening, take dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 03: BEIJING

Drive to the Juyong Pass this morning. Walk along the Great Wall of China to appreciate 2000 years of historical significance and admire the panoramic views. The Great Wall is China’s most iconic attraction that stretches over 6500 kilometres from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the east coast to the Gobi Desert in the west.

Visit a Jade Factory and Ming Tombs (Changling Tomb) consisting of 13 tombs of the emperors of the Ming Dynasty after the capital was moved from Nanjing to Beijing. This is unique as it is the only huge palace made of camphor wood. Return to Beijing for a short photo-stop at the Olympic Park, where you can see the outside view of the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) and National Aquatics Center (Water Cube). Have dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 04: BEIJING – XIAN

This morning, visit the Liulichang District that was once a favorite haunt for scholars, painters and calligraphers who gathered there to write, compile and purchase books, as well as to paint and compose poetry during Ming and Qing Dynasties. Recent renovations have transformed this place into a popular tourist attraction with an antique market that resembles a Chinese village comprising private and state run shops filled with a variety of Chinese folk arts such as paintings, calligraphy, pottery, carpets, vases, books, scrolls and chops.

Continue to Da Shi Lan, one of Beijing’s most famous old-fashioned streets that have a history dating back some 580 years. Built in 1430, the 18th year of Emperor Yong Le’s rule during the Ming Dynasty, Da Shi Lan today is 375 meters long and home to some 26 shops featuring a large variety of goods from silks and hats through to shoes and souvenirs. Transfer to the train station and catch the high speed train to Xian. Meet and greet on arrival and transfer to your selected hotel. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 05: XIAN

After breakfast. Depart for a full day tour with a visit to the China’s richest historic area, recognized by the UNESCO as the eighth wonder of the world, the amazing Museum of the Terracotta Warriors. The Terracotta Army in Xi’an was created to guard Emperor Qin Shihuang’s tomb and to protect him in the afterlife. It is estimated that there are more than 7,000 life-sized terracotta figures and horses buried in the mausoleum, and you can see this spectacular site on this full-day tour! The museum complex features extensive exhibits, artifacts and a movie of the rich history of the site. Afternoon visit to a specialist art lacquer work shop followed by free time for shopping at the ancient style street. Take dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 06: XIAN – GUILIN

After breakfast drive to the Xi’an City Wall, one of the best-preserved, oldest and largest ancient defense systems in China. First, admire its different sections on foot. and climb to the top of several watchtowers, including the Zhenglu Main Tower and the Jianlou Arrow Tower. From this height, enjoy beautiful views of the city and the moat surrounding the wall while your guide shares with you its history and legends.

Then visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda, an important Buddhist pagoda built during the Tang Dynasty. As you walk inside with your guide, learn about its role in the community, the extensive damage it has endured from natural disasters and the restoration process during the Ming Dynasty. Fly to Guilin this afternoon. Meet and greet on arrival and transfer to your selected hotel. Take dinner at a local restaurant overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 07: GUILIN

Depart from your hotel in the morning for your half day cruise along the impressive, lush green rock formations of the Li River Cruise. Disembark and stroll through the colourful and bustling markets and local street vendors in the ancient and now Western-influenced town of Yangshuo. Browse along West Street where almost everyone speaks fluent English and every restaurant or bar offers menus in several languages. In the many small shops and vendor stalls you can bargain for souvenirs, pearl, jade or fine Chinese paintings. Return to Guilin by coach in the late afternoon. Have dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel. (B/D)

DAY 08: GUILIN – SHANGHAI

After breakfast depart on your half day visit of Elephant Trunk Hill. It is a huge rock formation resembling an elephant dipping its trunk into the water at the confluence of the Yang and Li Rivers. We next visit the Reed Flute Cave, named after a type of reed grown near the cave gate that is used for making flutes. The natural beauty and endless variety of the many stalactite and stalagmite formations are quite breathtaking to behold. Fly to Shanghai this afternoon. Meet and greet on arrival and transfer to your selected hotel. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 09: SHANGHAI

Visit the Jade Buddha Temple, located in crowded Shanghai City and named after its two bejeweled white jade Buddha. Carved from a single piece of white jade, the seated jade Buddha statue is translucent with a solemn expression, displaying the excellent skill and extraordinary art of Chinese people.

The Yuyuan Garden has many scenic courtyards decorated with baroque rockery, pools and flora that are all connected by corridors and passageways. Stop by a Pearl Factory before proceeding to Nanjing Road, China’s premier shopping street – a must-see metropolitan destination that attracts thousands of high fashion shoppers from all over the world, starts at the Bund in the east and ends six kilometres west at the junction of Jingan Temple and Yan’an West Street with People’s Square in the middle

End the day with a visit to The Bund, Shanghai’s renowned waterfront district and landmark. Situated on the west bank of the Huangpu River and overlooking ultra-modern Pudong to the east, the Bund’s most famous and attractive sights are the various buildings that reflect the rich architectural styles from Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classic and the Renaissance periods. Take dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 10: SHANGHAI – DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel. You are at leisure until your transfer to Shanghai Airport for your departure flight. Itinerary ends. (B)
