Itinerary

DAY 01: ARRIVE IN BEIJING

Meet and greet on arrival in Beijing and transfer to your selected hotel by your local tour representative. Day at leisure. This evening, take dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel. (D)

DAY 02: BEIJING

Sightseeing today includes a visit to the remarkable Tiananmen Square, located at the centre of Beijing City. Stroll past the Tiananmen Tower, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and see the national flag raising ceremony. To the north of the square lies the treasure-filled Forbidden City that was the Imperial Palace of Emperors for over 500 years. With some 8700 rooms this complex represents the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China from the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

This afternoon, take in the landscaped beauty as you wander through the grounds of the picturesque Summer Palace, once a royal garden and summer retreat for members of the Emperor’s family and their courtesans. This evening, take dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 03: BEIJING

Drive to the Juyong Pass this morning. Walk along the Great Wall of China to appreciate 2000 years of historical significance and admire the panoramic views. The Great Wall is China’s most iconic attraction that stretches over 6500 kilometres from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the east coast to the Gobi Desert in the west.

Visit a Jade Factory before returning to Beijing for a short photo-stop at the Olympic Park, where you can see the outside view of the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) and National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) followed by a stop at a traditional Tea House where you can sample the diverse range of Chinese tea. Have dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 04: BEIJING

This morning, visit the Liulichang District that was once a favorite haunt for scholars, painters and calligraphers who gathered there to write, compile and purchase books, as well as to paint and compose poetry during Ming and Qing Dynasties. Recent renovations have transformed this place into a popular tourist attraction with an antique market that resembles a Chinese village comprising private and state run shops filled with a variety of Chinese folk arts such as paintings, calligraphy, pottery, carpets, vases, books, scrolls and chops.

Continue to Da Shi Lan, one of Beijing’s most famous old-fashioned streets that have a history dating back some 580 years. Built in 1430, the 18th year of Emperor Yong Le’s rule during the Ming Dynasty, Da Shi Lan today is 375 meters long and home to some 26 shops featuring a large variety of goods from silks and hats through to shoes and souvenirs. (B/D)

DAY 05: BEIJING – SHANGHAI

Morning high speed train to Shanghai. Meet and greet on arrival. Visit the Jade Buddha Temple, located in crowded Shanghai City and named after its two bejeweled white jade Buddha. Carved from a single piece of white jade, the seated jade Buddha statue is translucent with a solemn expression, displaying the excellent skill and extraordinary art of Chinese people.

The Yuyuan Garden has many scenic courtyards decorated with baroque rockery, pools and flora that are all connected by corridors and passageways. Stop by a Pearl Factory before proceeding to Nanjing Road, China’s premier shopping street – a must-see metropolitan destination that attracts thousands of high fashion shoppers from all over the world, starts at the Bund in the east and ends six kilometres west at the junction of Jingan Temple and Yan’an West Street with People’s Square in the middle

End the day with a visit to The Bund, Shanghai’s renowned waterfront district and landmark. Situated on the west bank of the Huangpu River and overlooking ultra-modern Pudong to the east, the Bund’s most famous and attractive sights are the various buildings that reflect the rich architectural styles from Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classic and the Renaissance periods. Take dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at your selected hotel. (B/D)

DAY 06: SHANGHAI – ZHUJIAJIAO WATER VILLAGE -SHANGHAI

Today we visit Zhujiajiao, Shanghai’s Venice – an ancient water town well-known throughout the country, with a history of more than 1700 years. Covering an area of 47 square kilometers, the little fan-shaped town glimmers like a bright pearl in the landscape of lakes and mountains. Fondly known as ‘Pearl Stream’, this little village is the best-preserved of four such ancient villages in Shanghai. Unique old bridges across burbling streams, small rivers shaded by willow trees and houses with courtyards have the ability to transport visitors from today’s big city bustle into a charming world of antiquity, leisure and tranquillity of a bygone era. Drive back to Shanghai for dinner at local restaurant and overnight at your hotel. (B/D)

DAY 07: SHANGHAI – DEPARTURE
